CHQ NEWS:
LET US KNOW SOME MORE FACTS ABOUT PROPOSED VRS IN BSNL AND NOT BECOME A VICTIM OF “DEBT TRAP” AND GET FINISHED.
Latest reports reveal that fiscal deficit for the year is expected to be as high as 5.46% of GDP as compared to 4.5% of GDP of 2010-11. With such a high fiscal deficit, finance minister is mulling the idea of selling the stake in CPSUs since disinvestment in present economic climate is not going to yield resources that are needed to bridge the budget deficit.
It is thus quite doubtful in view of drastic steps being contemplated by finance minister to overcome the widening fiscal deficit whether government will at all finance VRS proposed by BSNL/board. It is quite likely, and sufficient indications have been given in this direction by BSNL management, that BSNL management will eventually accept disastrous proposal of “Loan without interest” to cushion VRS scheme and thereby plunge company in a crisis from which it can never come out.
Companies who have fallen into such “Debt Traps” never have recovered. In fact, they have gone completely down the drain. We are fortunate that as of now we do not have a market liability, once we are in such a situation means end of the road.
By taking loan, those who go home may not have problems (even though in their case too pension is going to be a serious issue because of 60:40 % sharing orders of DOT) but those who stay back shall be in terrible mess. Getting salaries become huge issue once liability is created in a company which is already reeling under the impact of heavy losses. Let us thus understand that issues for viability of BSNL are entirely different, related to policies of the government and the management, and these policies have to be fought out through sustained struggle, political campaign and support, media and public support. To get political, media and public support, intense and protracted struggle of the trade unions is the only way out. Let us get ready for such a struggle and not look back.
